SCIF Sound Testing Services per ICD/ICS 705

  • RML Acoustics has extensive experience performing acoustical testing of walls, floors/ceilings and doors in U.S. Military buildings, including those with Secure Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs).
  • Equally important, we assist Contractors with navigating the often conflicting or poorly worded sound testing specifications issued by the U.S. government for military building projects.
  • Military specifications often refer to test standards and acoustical metrics that cannot be used to provide the type of testing being requested. For example, ASTM Standard E336 cannot be used to test doors, but is often used in STC rated door specifications with field testing requirements.
  • RML Acoustics can assist the Contractor with properly wording requests for clarification and requests for direction from the Owner related to the acoustical specifications.
  • Typically, Owners will accept the Noise Isolation Class (NIC) testing requirements in Chapter 9 of the ICD/ICS 705 Technical Specifications in lieu of often untestable ASTC testing requirements for walls and NIC testing requirements for doors.
  • We also assist Clients with the development of wall, door and floor/ceiling assembly designs to meet the project’s Sound Transmission Class (STC) requirements.
